Maison de Paix needs everyone’s support in this emergency situation
Since August 14, 2020, Sister Rachele, our contact in Kikwit for Maison de Paix, has informed us that the solar power station is not providing the correct voltage and the generator runs all night, resulting in considerable costs, noise pollution, and environmental impact.
The damage primarily affects food supplies, essential for survival, which are stored in 2 freezers that must be discarded when thawed, resulting in significant economic waste. Even the attempt to cook them to salvage at least part of the food proves very difficult because the flue of the wood-burning stove, during this period of roof extension construction, temporarily does not vent outside and all the smoke returns into the house, intoxicating them.
Engineer Petillon, who is carrying out the canopy work, unfortunately with many interruptions in construction activity, should resolve the problem within days.
The interruption of nighttime lighting, beyond the obvious inconvenience, also poses a certain security risk for the religious sisters and the girls housed in the Center.
Sfera’s technical working group is taking action to resolve this difficult situation as soon as possible, but it will be necessary to address unforeseen and substantial expenses.
We ask you to continue supporting us, now more than ever, to help us address this emergency situation.
