Educational Horizons: Training Without Borders

From theory to practice. The Global Compact on Education in motion between Italy and the Congo.

The Essence of the Project: A Partnership of Equals

The goal is not to “teach those in need,” but to learn together. We believe that an Italian teacher and a Congolese teacher, though working in different contexts, share the same mission: to form citizens capable of peace.

The Two Pillars of the Initiative

Unlike classic aid projects, this initiative does not limit itself to building structures; it focuses on the “software” of education: the skills of the teachers. The project was created to implement the Global Compact on Education, transforming the classroom into a laboratory for peace, both in Brescia and in Kikwit.

1. International Co-Training (The Mirror Method)

Unlike traditional training courses, our methodology is based on reciprocity:

  • Trainers in Pairs: Every online meeting features the simultaneous presence of an Italian and a Congolese trainer. This ensures that every teaching strategy is discussed, adapted, and enriched by both cultures.

  • Monthly Meetings: a network of constant dialogue between teachers from Brescia and the DR Congo to exchange best practices and address contemporary educational challenges together.

2. Experimentation in Schools: Global Citizenship Education

The project enters Italian classrooms (such as at the Santa Maria di Nazareth Institute) to transform how young people look at the world:

  • Plural Perspectives: Educational pathways for ages 2 to 14 to develop the awareness that we are all inhabitants of a “common home.”

  • Pedagogy of Solidarity: We translate the core principles of the Global Compact on Education into daily activities, making solidarity a lived experience rather than just a theoretical concept.

An International Scientific Committee

The project is supported by an academic alliance that guarantees the depth of the journey:

  • Scientific Committee of Fondazione Sfera

  • Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Brescia)

  • Catholic University of Congo (Kinshasa)

  • Congo Youth Group: the driving force of young teachers and researchers.
